The lockdown measures have been eased slightly, but what does this mean for us motorists? Now people are permitted to drive to other destinations for daily exercise under easing of lockdown measures for England.
When Boris Johnson address the nation, he said the government was changing its guidance around motoring specifically in reference to those who commute to work and outdoor exercise. We are now being encouraged to drive, walk or cycle to work if we cannot work from home and can drive freely for other purposes if social distancing measures are met. However, this does not mean you can travel to different parts of the UK as this would be inconsistent with guidance.
There are currently no mileage limits set for the distance people could drive. Walking and cycling are favoured, however your car is an option once again. This does not mean you can drive to different parts of the UK, as these lockdown easing measures only apply to exercise and work-related travel.

It is different for those in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as they are sticking by the stay home rules. In Northern Ireland, that includes exercise. For Scotland, exercise must be local and Wales taking the car is allowed for exercise if necessary.
The use of public transport is being discouraged as there are fears amid how social distancing measures will be met if all returns to as before during rush hour, so where possible, businesses will need to put measures for parking in place for those driving to work.
While the lockdown measures have been eased to involved unlimited mileage, travelling to a second home or driving somewhere you intend to stay overnight is not designated under the new restrictions.
