It’s important to check your MOT history to find out when your MOT is due or when you’re looking to buy a used car. The vehicle’s MOT history is going to contain indications on how well the car has been maintained, as well as advising you of any serious faults that have been flagged up in the past.
What’s included on the MOT history check?
As well as being able to see your vehicle’s full MOT history, you will also be able to see further information on the status of your MOT through the Government site. The MOT history will show you:
● Test Date - this shows the failed and passed dates of previous MOT tests.
● Test certificate - view your most recent test certificate if you have the V5C number.
● MOT test number - the 12 digit number used for reference.
● Expiry date - indicates when your current MOT certificate expires.
● Test location - you can view the test location with the V5C number.
● MOT information - you can also view any defects of advisories raised during your car’s last MOT test, such as whether the brake pads were wearing thin or tyres were close to the legal minimum tread.
Mileage is also available to check in the MOT history section of the gov.uk website. If you’re looking to buy a used car, you can visit this section of the website to check the mileage of the vehicle. This will tell you whether or not the car has had the mileage of the odometer changed to make it look like the car has been driven fewer miles than what it actually has.
