The valve allows you to control the temperature as you can adjust the flow of the air conditioning in the cabin. The liquid will then turn into a vapour that passes through the evaporation coils, which subsequently get blown into the cabin as cool air. The refrigerant becomes a gas again by this point and returns to the compressor ready for the process to start all over again.
