Spring is finally in the air here in the UK and with the warmer weather making a comeback, it’s a good time to get your car in shape for road trips, staycations and weekend getaways. Here are a few simple steps to ensure your vehicle gets the ultimate spring clean for the warmer months ahead!
Spring cleaning calls for thoroughly cleaning your car both inside, and out. After months of storms and snowy winter weather, giving your car a thorough wash and wax should be on the top of your list to get rid of any road grime, debris and salt build-up.
It’s also an opportunity to spring clean the inside, getting rid of any rubbish or junk that tends to accumulate over time. Make the most of the warmer days by vacuuming and cleaning your car’s windows, as well as removing any rubbish or gear from the boot which can impact your fuel economy.
Don’t forget - we are still living through a pandemic so be sure to disinfect the interior too as well as any frequent touchpoints such as handles, steering wheel etc.
How are your tyre pressures and treads?
Don’t forget about your tyre pressure - as the air starts to get cooler during the winter the tyre pressure decreases, but as it gets warmer, tyre pressure can rise and if the pressure increases beyond the manufacturer recommendation, it can lead to overinflation and premature tyre wear.
While you’re here, it’s also worth checking the tyre tread depth by using a 20p coin inserted headfirst into the tread. If you can see any part of the outer band of the coin at any point on the tyre, you need to replace your tyre.
Your wipers worked hard over the winter months, which is why it’s important you check the blades for any signs of cracking or wear.
Be sure they’re in good working condition before you set out on your next adventure as worn wiper blades can reduce visibility. Experts recommend you change your wiper blades every six months to a year.
Oil and coolant will play a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly and before you set out after the winter months, you need to check and potentially top up the engine oil and coolant levels. While you’re there, be sure you also have sufficient windscreen washer fluid as it’s illegal to drive with an empty reservoir!
